These photos are to share the beauty of our land south of Cheney, Washington. We are in process of creating a home on the land. Please feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts.
The winter has closed in. We have had the 100 year snow this winter. We have had 4 chains on our 4x4 pickup to get out to the county road where we have been parking our 4x4 Bronco to get into town. Finally, at almost the beginning of March, the days are warming up enough to begin melting the snow on our driveway. A herd of about 20 to 30 white tail deer has been hanging around all winter.
We use a clean taped detail on our door casings so the doors have to be hung before the wallboard taping is done. In order not to get drywall on the raw wood and spoil the staining, I've been staining and lacquering the doors before they are hung.
I bought some plastic flexible bead to trim the arches. It's new to me since I've never done arches before.
The walk in shower has 1/2 inch cement board (Durock) which is completely waterproof. It is backing for the tile finish to be added later. Joints in the Durock are sealed with Thinset mortar.
I finally got started taping the wallboard by the middle of January or so. This is an arch with the tape added.
This shows the taping of the bathroom, hallway, and utility room up on the deck.
This is a view of the west end from the unfinished area.
Here is a view of the winter scene to the south.
Here is a view of the house from the driveway this January.
The now slid off the roof and on the North side doesn't get any sunshine. It finally buried the windows.
In the Bay 1 living room our north window is completely blocked by the snow.
The sliding glass door on our north side is completely blocked by snow. The snow in the fields is only about 2 feet deep by the end of January, but where it slides off our roof it piles up. I can't see over the pile. Several other buildings in this area have collapsed from the weight of snow on their roofs this winter, so I guess its good that it slides off instead of piling up deep on the roof. The south gets sunshine so it never got deeper than about 3 feet against the building.
A herd of white tail deer has been hanging around all winter. Here you can see several of them. This morning I went into the unfinished area and found a deer looking in our south glass door.
Both of our outside lights got broken by ice falling from the roof. It also broke the stove pipe for our unit heater. I will have to fix them this summer after the snow melts and I can get the scissor lift around to the side of the building. I need to figure out a different plan. We can't be getting broken every winter. One good thing. The unit heater kept our unfinished space warm enough so that we didn't get any frozen pipes this year, and the buried foam insulation kept our well pipe from freezing.
That's all for now, I'm almost done with the 2nd coat of compound on Bay 4. Then the 3rd coat starts. We're already talking about paint colors.
