Coney Hall - Page 24 -- Finish work

These photos are to share the beauty of our land south of Cheney, Washington. We are in process of creating a home on the land. Please feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts.

These photos are rather large so if you are on a slow feed please be patient.

Here are the recent photos.

1 cabinet

The kitchen cabinets are taking shape in the cabinet shop. This one will eventually hold the sink.

2 bath done

Here is the finished shower. It's roomy and feels roomy.

3 bath done

As soon as the bath was done we pretty much moved right in. It's a lot roomier than the cramped apartment, motel, and RV baths we've been putting up with for the past couple of years.

4 bath done

Our bathrooms have plumbing for men -- we live here too. The Sloan valve we bought on e-bay was missing a part in the backflow preventer so we can't use it yet. The rest of the plumbing is nice, new and looks good.

5 big door threshold

A chipmunk peeked in under the door yesterday. There won't be that big of an opening any more. We got a break in the rainy weather so we dropped what we were doing on the cabinets and rushed out to pour the concrete threshold for our big sliding door.

6 RV morning

Here's our comfy RV where we are living temporarily. It's a beautiful place to wake up on such a fine morning. The heater motor died so it's a bit cold, but still cozies.

7 dish

Out here there is no cable Internet, and the phone company doesn't have facilities to provide DSL or anything faster than a very slow dial up. So we went satellite direct. The Internet guy came yesterday and installed this dish, modem, and cables. Plug and play; we're on line at high speed.

8 cabinets done

After several days of staining and painting the kitchen cabinets were finished and stacked waiting to be installed. Remember that we are finishing only 1/4 of the whole building with a modest kitchen in order to get a certificate of occupancy as soon as possible. A larger kitchen will be created later.

9 big door painted

The big outside door is finished and painted, including the trim. We found a specialty paint supplier who could produce oil base enamel matching the metal primer that we have kept as part of our color scheme. Closed in and weatherstripped -- finally!

10 floor prep

We spent a couple of days doing touch up painting high in the area and then booted the scissor lift out of the way. It makes marks on the floor from the black tires. Here Justin has been grinding concrete where the floor slab meets the corner foundation pylons. The vacuum keeps dust to a minimum.

11 floor wash

After all the construction work our concrete floor was covered with paint, spilled wallboard mud, black tire tracks, regular mud, and general grime. None of that helps the floor tile glue to stick to the concrete. Here Justin runs a 20-inch floor machine we picked up used. Its a fight to control but it really goes after the dirt. Two scrubbings and two rinses and we are ready for the flooring.

12 floor tile

We are using Armstrong Excelon floor tiles. Similar tiles are used in most big commercial stores such as Wal Mart and Safeway. They are very durable, shine well, and the colors haven't changed in 50 years so there is a good expectation of always being able to buy an exact color match at some future date if needed. With the preparation, glue, and then the sealers its still less than a buck a foot.
