These photos are to share the beauty of our land south of Cheney, Washington. We are in process of creating a home on the land. Please feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts.
These photos are rather large so if you are on a slow feed please be patient.
We got the well dug. The first 450 feet here are sold basalt. There is a fractured layer about 460 feet down. The bottom of our well is 488 feet. We have about 40 gallons per minute available, but the pump people often put only a 10 gpm pump. I guess that's enough. Once freed from the overhead rock the water filled the well to about 380 feet below surface, leaving about a 380 foot head pressure for the pump to work against. That's close to 200 psi. Plus you have to add whatever system pressure you need for your house. The good news is that there is lots of water available and the well is done. Now we can get the drainfield permit and building permit which require a well first.
The well drillers came out on June 15 and started drilling
They are down about 400 feet and still going. I'm amazed at how fast this rig drills. I was used to the old cable rigs, which would have taken a month to drill our well. This rig cuts rock so fast you can watch the head frame travel as it pushes the drill rod into the hole.
Keep on drilling
After $5,000 of drilling, in about a day, we have water.
Lots of water
Water coming out everywhere
water, water, about 40 gallons per minute
They use a 1 gallon bucket and stop watch to measure the flow rate.
More of the bucket test
After a while the water starts to look cleaner.
All done a little after lunch on the 2nd day
The well is about 15 feet south of the SW corner of the house. Here we're looking northeast toward the house location.
