The Land at Cheney Washington - Page 7
Foundation complete

These photos are to share the beauty of our land south of Cheney, Washington. We are in process of creating a home on the land. Please feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts.

These photos are rather large so if you are on a slow feed please be patient.

Things are really starting to happen out at Coney Hall. The septic tank and drain field is in, the power poles and temporary power is in, and the concrete is now poured all the way around the foundation stem walls.

Our house is 60 feet by 100 feet. Someone compared that to a Los Alamos "quad" fourplex. Our building is as long as the whole 4 unit quad and more than twice as wide. Here are a few of our recent progress photos.

Moving rock

The first 3 concrete pours were done with the concrete truck inside the building because access to the north side is difficult. After the 3rd pour we blocked the driveway to excavate footings on the east side, and had Wayne clear rock piles on the south side. The last two pours were done on the south and east sides with the concrete trucks outside the foundation.

Wet the wall

Some people say that it's good to keep your concrete wet for a few days after pouring so it cures better. Here Justin is watering the new stem wall.

insulation

Energy codes now require insulation around the perimeter of the building under the floor. Here are Justin and the hired guy, Jeff, installing 2 inch foam board against the already set stem walls.

power pole

The power company finally came out on Friday 9-23 and set our 3 new power poles. It's really convenient to be able to plug in some power tool without having to fire up a noisy portable generator.

Septic tank

Wayne worked for a week putting in our septic tank and drain field, the private sewage disposal system. Another necessary item inspected and approved.

pumpkin

Fall is here so we decorated by putting a pumpkin on top of our number sign post out at the road. Liquid Nails keeps it from falling off.

sprinkler pipe

The convenient time to install lawn sprinkler pipe is while the ditch is open. We put in over 1/4 mile of PVC pipe this week. I hope it's somewhere useful next spring when we get around to starting some shrubs.

last pour 1

The 5th and last concrete truck for the stem walls arrived with the last 4 yards of concrete and we completed the circumference of the building on September 27, just 13 days after the 1st pour. .

backitup

Here Justin waves to the concrete drive to back up a little to position the chute. Clothes get spattered with concrete.

last pour 2

Here we are finishing up the stem wall. Tomorrow strip forms, install the rest of the insulation and piping, and start back filling to level ground again. Next week we put up steel structure. This is the SE corner and east side plinth where the driveway to the interior originally gave access. When finished we will have a 12 x 12 sliding door just to the left of this location for future access to the finished building.
